Onwards across the Isles - Bressay

Onwards across the Isles - Bressay

Bressay was my second stop on my Gloril tour. It's much easier to read with only 1 short 5 minute ferry from Lerwick in a fairly sheltered bay. I have family connection with Bressay too as my paternal Granny was from Beosetter, a special spot in Bressay.

I headed to the Speldiburn Cafe,  a community facility that grew from the old Primary School (a school for children age 5 - 12). It hosts a Parkrun every Saturday morning and has a charity shop and an arts and crafts. exhibition space as well as a fab cafe. Textile enthusiasts will find Midwinter yarn in a studio there as well as Grindischool Wool, grown in Bressay. Grindischool Wool offers mostly natural coloured yarn but also variegated dyed Shetland yarn.

We had a lovely weekend with much yarning and knitting.

You might spot Hazel and her fabulous self made fair isle tank tops at Shetland Wool Week events.

Heather has fab artwork on display in the centre. I particularly love her new copper leaf pictures. You can check out her instagram account below.

Emily at 15 was the youngest knitter that weekend.

Another gorgeous hand knit slip over!

Fiona with her lamp standing in front of her weaving and knitting display.

There's fascinating archeology there too in the shape of standing stones with ogham marks on them. There's huge potential for a scarf design there but I've only sketched it out and not cast it on yet!

I thoroughly recommend a visit to Bressay!
