This one of a kind necklace was inspired by the practice of marking sheep ears to signify ownership. The Shetland Museum and Archives holds a collection of vintage cut outs dating from 1799. These show the specific markings related to each croft. I have replicated them in fine silver and vitreous enamel. Some of the pieces are embossed using parts of the silver lace shawl I made as part of my Hentilagets project, the wind ripped it from the window so I decided to embed it into some of my jewellery. The chain is made using a viking knit technique and fine silver wire.
